What exactly is currency?

Currency is the money used for buying and selling goods and services in a financial market. The currency of a country can be represented either by its own units or by units of another currency. The Euro is the currency of the European Union (EU). The Swiss Franc (CHF) is the'Swiss franc, colloquially or signifying the currency used in Switzerland.

What are the similarities between the Euro and the Swiss Franc?

Both the Euro and the Swiss Franc are international currencies, even though they differ in sizes and values. They both have 8 digits (the Euro is the smallest currency and has 2 0,000's [euros] while the Swiss Franc is the largest currency in Europe and has 4 0,000's). Both of these currencies are created from a task force.

What's the difference between the EUR and the CHF?

The EUR is the currency code for Euros and the CHF is the currency code for Swiss Francs. They're both called Euros in everyday speech, but that's their official currency identification.
The Franc is currently worth 0.9 CHF, making it a little less expensive to travel in Switzerland (or France) from Europe than in most of Europe. And, due to its close proximity to France, it's not difficult to understand why your money is often referred to as Francs.

  • What is the definition of foreign exchange?

Foreign exchange, or simply FX, is the exchange of one currency for another. To make the process easier and more efficient, there are online currency converters that allow international travelers to get a quick feel for what their money is worth in a particular country.
  • Is it still possible to convert francs to euros?

You can still exchange Swiss francs to euros in most banks, but you might have to go to your bank branch, as you no longer exchange money at the train station or airport. The best exchange rates often apply for a maximum of 2,000 CHF per transaction. You have a maximum amount of 40,000 CHF that can be converted from francs to euros. Money exchanges at the airport work 24 hours but exchange rates vary between banks and change daily.
