Using the Excel ISERROR Function


The Excel ISERROR function is one of Excel's IS functions. ISERROR returns TRUE for every error that Excel generates, including #N/A. ISERROR can be combined with the IF function to test for errors and then return a custom message or perform a different calculation.


=ISERROR (value)

Syntax Breakdown

Required. The value to be checked for any error that can be produced by Excel. This argument is typically provided as a cell address.

Usage Notes

ISERROR checks to see if a cell contains an error and returns TRUE if an error is found.

The function will catch the following errors: #N/A, #VALUE!, #REF!, #DIV/0!, #NUM!, #NAME?, and #NULL!
